1985-EMILY's List
EMILY's List was founded in 1985, it stands for "Early Money Is Like Yeast". It is an organization that raises money for pro-choice democratic women candidates. The organization helps raise awareness for the pro-choice democratic candidates and help spread the word about them, they also when the day come to vote all go and vote for the women that they were supporting.
1994- Violence Against Women Act
The Violence Against Women Act provided special training for police officers on rape and abuse, also they made tighter penalties on sex offenders. Women who were rape victims or victims of domestic violence would get small funds from the government and protection for battered immigrants.
1996-United States v. Virginia
In 1996 the Supreme Court ruled that all Military schools in the state of Virginia had to allow women to be enrolled in order for them to continue to receive public funding. The court said that Virginia had violated its Equal Protection Clause by not allowing women to go to this military school. Therefore the school had three choices, to allow women, to make an equal but separate institute, or to become a private college and receive no funding from the government.
2003- Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act
The Partial- Birth Abortion Ban Act is an act that makes Partial-Birth Abortions illegal. A Partial Birth Abortion is when a baby is alive and the physician makes the mother have the baby and if babies head comes out first the doctor will preform a process of puncturing the child's skull and removing the babies brain. Many people found this to be a very disturbing act and the Supreme Court ruled this act illegal.
2009- Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act
The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act is an act that says women will be paid the same as men. The Act is named after a women named Lily Ledbetter who work at a company for 19 years and complained that she was not paid as much as men and the Supreme Court ruled against her. Then Obama made the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration act which stated women would be paid the same as men.
